The next episode of “The Hook-Up” is here and I couldn’t be more excited. Dellin Betances has been a lights-out pitcher in his first few years with the New York Yankees and for those of you that didn’t know, he is a local guy. Dellin was born in Washington Heights in Manhattan and also lived on the Lower East Side. As a young aspiring baseball player, he was a big Yankees fan (he actually attended David Wells’ perfect game in 1998) and he played in the Youth Service League as a kid.
For more than 60 years, the Youth Service League has been providing youth programs for inner city children. It is comprised of an all-volunteer staff and is a New York City-wide program providing meaningful and positive educational life and skills development.
I got to surprise kids that are currently in the Youth Service League in this episode with special a visit from Dellin. Not only that, the league was also surprised with $10,000 in donated baseball equipment from Modell’s Sporting Goods, and an additional $10,000 donation courtesy New Era Cap to aid in building additional baseball fields.
In addition to the donations, Steiner Sports, Modell’s Sporting Goods & New Era Cap joined forces to create a limited edition hat, featuring an exclusive Dellin Betances patch that pays tribe to his roots. The hat will be sold exclusively at select Modell’s stores in New York, as well as online. A portion of all proceeds will benefit Youth Service League in their efforts to build additional baseball fields in the NY area.
