Don't Get Too Comfortable

The minute you feel comfort is the minute you should start to worry.

Why? Because something worthwhile won’t offer you comfort.

You want that promotion? Put in the extra hours to get it.

Trying to close the biggest deal of your career? See you on Saturday.

Big presentation next week? Know your business inside-and-out.

Too often people are just okay with being just okay. Make a change. Take risks, albeit, calculated ones.

I thrive on being uncomfortable. At Steiner Sports, I have to get after it everyday, and I still do. If there’s ever an issue with a supplier, an athlete has a big night that we want to craft new products around, or if I have a big meeting with one of our corporate partners, I get a real energy boost because I love tackling challenges.

That’s what discomfort is all about. You feel uncomfortable when you’re faced with a challenge and the important part is what you do about it.

I read a great article from Forbes on this topic last year and was drawn to this line:

“In an increasingly competitive, cautious and accelerated world, those who are willing to take risks, step out of their comfort zone and into the discomfort of uncertainty will be those who will reap the biggest rewards.”

- Margie Warrell, Forbes

Don’t be complacent. Always look for more.

How are you going to tackle your next challenge? Where can you take a risk?

Don’t get too comfortable.
