You Can Learn A Lot From Dummies

Ask yourself: what kind of message you want to portray about yourself?

“Don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.” The concept of ‘dressing to impress’ seems to get lost in the world today. It shouldn’t be. You must understand how small the world is and how every single person you meet is important. Your style is you. Do you want to be known as the guy with a wrinkled, untucked dress shirt with baggy pants at work? Or do you want to be known as the guy who always wears a cleanly tucked and unwrinkled shirt with nicely tapered pants and fashionable shoes?

If you walk down the streets of Manhattan, you’ll see thousands of people. I can almost guarantee you that no two people dresses exactly the same. Every single person has his/her own unique style that defines the individual.

Instead of keeping your head down in your phone, keep your head on a swivel and watch the world around you. Observe everybody and their outfits. In your own way, judge other people’s looks. Ask yourself: Do you like that sport jacket? Are those heels too dressy or too casual? Should I wear a bag over my shoulder? Do I want to wear a scarf? Should I wear nicer shoes? Boots?

Further, admire storefront windows and the dummies inside. Study the styles that professional fashion experts have put together and note what you like and don’t like. Learn from the dummies and create your own style - Your style is your self-image. This image is what you’re going to sell – to your friends, family, co-workers and employers.

You want to best-sell yourself to others. Learn from the “dummies” whom you walk past every day and begin to dress for success. Your style says more about you than you might think. Learn from those around you and elevate your own image. You only have one chance to make a first impression, so make that first impression memorable. You never know when you might run into somebody who will be extraordinarily influential in your life and/or career.

It is the little things in life that make the largest difference. Dressing poorly won't get you in trouble, but putting in the little extra effort, going above and beyond and dressing professionally, will get you far and separate you from those around you.
