You don't have to be the best in the class. You just have to do your best.
Growing up was tough, and sitting in a classroom was even tougher for me as I dealt with ADHD and OCD. At the end of the day I think I could have been in the top 90% of my class grade-wise, but my mind was in so many places...
If you're a dreamer, don't stop dreaming.
I always knew school wasn't a fit for me. Learning in the classroom was (and still is) skewed too heavily on one type of learning, and it left others behind. It still surprises me to this day, though, when people think they are going to be successful just because they get A's on their report card.
But, I have met plenty of "Ivy Leaugers" who have not lived up to their potential. Just because you may seem to have all the makings of a success, it does not mean you will live up to it.
It's not where you start, but where you finish!
A lot of you know my favorite band these days is the Imagine Dragons. They are my go-to for morning workouts. The other day the song "Thunder" specifically caught my attention...
"Just a young gun with a quick fuse
I was uptight, wanna let loose
I was dreaming of bigger things
And wanna leave my own life behind
Not a yes sir, not a follower
Fit the box, fit the mold
Have a seat in the foyer, take a number
I was lightning before the thunder"
That song taught me this: You don't have to be the best in the class. You just have to do your best.
To be successful all you need is a dream, and then you have to pursue that dream. Once you find something you love to do, that's the one thing you'll be the best at.
