Getting to Do Something vs. Having to Do Something

Everything in life is about perspective.

Here are two situations that will prove my point:

Situation 1

"As your boss I show up to your house at 5am. I tell you that we have to go to the office right now and work on our huge presentation. Pack your things up for the day, and let’s get started because it’s going to be a long one."

Situation 2

"As your boss I show up to your house at 5am. I tell you that you don’t have to go into work today, because I’m taking you up to the mountain to ski all day. Now go get your stuff, and let’s go!"

When encountered with Situation 1, most people would bitch, moan and complain. From the start they would show no excitement and just count the clock until it was time for them to go home.

In Situation 2, though, they would be ecstatic, and would have full energy to take on the day ahead of them.

Everything in life is about perspective.

Instead of looking at your tasks as challenges, view them as opportunities.

The real challenge is doing the extra things that go far beyond your job description. Ask yourself, “Am I willing to go that extra mile to do outstanding work, instead of mediocre work?”

What's your mindset? Is it about what your company can do for you, or what you can do for your company?

Focus each day on what you get to do, and not what you have to do. Life is a gift not an obligation.
