I know I am always talking about how important it is to be grateful for what you have. Well, today I am grateful for what I don't have.
There are a few things I remind myself of everyday:
- Health is everything.
- Be grateful for what you don’t have.
- Don’t be envious of what you don’t have.
Recently I had back surgery and I was feeling pretty down about it. I didn’t want to go. All you think about are bad things that could happen when you’re put to sleep and they cut you open.
Between filling out all of the necessary paperwork and answering tons of questions, mentally I was spent.
Do you have/have you had:
- High blood pressure?
- Stroke?
- Diabetes?
- Cancer?
- Other Operations?
- Heart problems?
- Depression?
- Allergies?
- Kidney issues?
- Arthritis?
- Heart attack?
- Past surgeries?
- Mental health issues?
- Etc…
I can go on and on. There were probably 100 things on that list. As I’m checking things off the list I thought to myself, “Wow, back surgery doesn’t sound all that bad considering all these boxes I’m saying, 'no,' to.”
So, what’s my point? Well, while the back surgery gave me a little scare, I realized that there are a lot of things I don’t have…and that’s a good thing. For the most part, I’ve maintained my health and that’s something I need to always be grateful for.
What are you grateful for?
